Maxwell Minotaur Reserve Shiraz
A feature of the Maxwell estate is the conifer maze adjacent to the old Ellen Street in front of the Winery. Many visitors to the estate take time to stroll down its paths. A labyrinth is a special circular maze that in ancient Greek mythology secured the fearsome might of the half man / half bull Minotaur for King Minos of Crete. We have created the Minotaur label to convey the power and intensity contained within this, our Reserve Shiraz.
COLOUR AND AROMA: The colour is a rich ruby garnet, which seem to be characteristic of the 2012 vintage. The aromas change in the glass over time beginning with fresh nectarine and cherry and showing deeper fresh leather notes from the new French oak barrels.
PALATE: The palate is robust showing gamey and complex forest floor notes with rich shiraz elements of nutmeg, white pepper and Satsuma plum. Cedar oak tones and pure cocoa, which adds to the seamless palate. Ultra-fine tannins underwrite these flavours, to provide structure and length. The Shiraz parcel chosen for this wine represents the pinnacle of the 2012 vintage. A small production of less than 200 dozen created a wine of power, purity and persistence.
